When to Schedule Fall Leaf Removal on the Eastern Shore

By Jenn, Evergreen Lawn Care LLC · October 2026

If you live in Easton, Oxford, St. Michaels or Cambridge, you know the pattern: the leaves don't all fall at once. They come down for weeks, and every week you put it off, the pile gets heavier and harder to deal with.

Why leaves can't just sit

A thick layer of leaves blocks sunlight and air from your lawn. Wet leaves can mat down, keep the grass damp and make it harder for turf to stay healthy going into winter. In garden beds, a heavy leaf blanket can hold moisture against plant crowns.

When to start

Don't wait for the last leaf to drop. A good rule is to clear leaves as they accumulate rather than once at the very end. Many Eastern Shore properties have a mix of oaks, maples and other trees that drop at different times, so one clean-up is rarely enough.

How often

  • Light leaf fall: clear every one to two weeks.
  • Heavy fall or lots of mature trees: weekly during peak season.
  • One final clean-up after the majority of trees are bare.

Do it yourself or hire it out?

If you have the weekend and the energy, it's a good workout. But if your yard is large, or you simply don't have the time, a scheduled clean-up gets it handled without it eating your Saturdays.
